Mark出生在纽约的一个犹太家庭里，父亲是一个律师，母亲是一个教师，他高中时层是一名摔跤运动员，获得过州冠军。因肥皂剧《Loving》而迅速走 红，同时也是Lazy Monday乐队的一员。1993年从南加州大学毕业并获得全额奖学金，后又前往法国L'École Phillipe学院和伦敦音乐和戏剧艺术学院进修。出演过Fired Up (1997), Conrad Bloom (1998), The Heart Department (2001), Good Morning, Miami。因行为动作酷似Chaplin而声名远播，素有喜剧巨星风范，在出演电影Two Weeks Notice时，和Sandra Bullock的合作原因，导致该片内其所有的镜头都被删除。
